Vaagai Sudava - Education empowers you

Vaagai Soodava is a movie based on post Independence time story of a teacher trying to get government job by serving with an NGO in totally illiterate village. Vimal shows his best in acting as a dumb teacher who is not interested in teaching but interested in getting a government job vide teaching in village for some time. However his luck gets hidden and only nightmares approach him - children fooling him multiple times vide goat bad words, hitting, heroine(Iniya) fooling him by giving food and the heroine's father (Thambi Ramaiya) who puts a riddle, whom the hero finally cracks with help of his father (Bhagiyaraj). Meanwhile the story revolves how he convince the parents the importance of education for their children by proving how the villain has been cheating them in number of bricks (which is their only source of living).

Another important thing is due to lack of education, the villain has been cheating them in quantity and price and hide them from outside world in knowing their USP of making bricks and fooling them in land deals. Here is one of the rare films in which the hero gets hurt and he doesn't strike back. Another important thing is the way it is made, the dusky color of the film and it suits the theme of the film. "Sarapambu" song is one of the best melody songs ever and went on to win lot of awards and the music suits the film theme too. Almost all the characters in the film have shown their best even the little children and the high tech villains and it suits the film. Overall, one of the best movies ever made in Tamil film world.

Daivathinte Swantham Cleetus - Religious Masala

Daivathinte Swantham Cleetus (DSC) is a simple story of a village parish trying to make a drama on Jesus's life and show it to people under the title - "Yeshuvinte Jeevacharithram". The story revolves around parish priest (played by Siddique) and drama scriptwriter searching for a person to depict Jesus, which they find in Cleetus (played by Mammootty). Cleetus is a local goon whose appearance is  only holy and rest are all unholy. He accepts the role for his personal reasons to meet his son and wife. In the process of acting in drama, the drama totally changes Cleetus and makes him a God like figure.

The film shows that any person following Jesus' story will surely get influenced and the way he lived can even be followed now in this present day world. The life story of Jesus can change even a criminal in to a repenting and changed individual. The film also shows that appearances are deceptive and life of Jesus should change the person from inside and any hard-hearted person can change. The film is taken in a way that when part of Jesus story is enacted the actual events in today's world also take place - like stoning of Mary Magdalene, Jesus cleansing the temple, Jesus getting beaten up, etc. The highlights is the climax in which the hero suffers for his sin but God makes him come back by arising him on third day after 2 days in coma. Also, when Mammootty is laid on cross as Jesus, even the villain comes to kill him, he could have escaped, but since he is playing the divine character and accepts his destiny for his sins, he waits for the villain to kill him. Hats off to the idea shown by story and script. In the end, I feel like its a religious film for all types of viewers and is hundred times better than hearing hardcore speeches of religion or self help.

Naan Ee - The Small Wonder

If u think Naan Ee is a simple movie with villain, hero and heroine and usual villain- hero fights, yes its true. But the whole point is hero dies in middle of film without any real love songs. Can you imagine that in Indian film industry. It is a big shocker, but the hero returns as housefly in second life. Wow! what a brave attempt by the director. Hats off to Rajamouli (director of Student No. 1 and Magadeera). The story turns interesting  soon after the hero dies. The housefly starts taking revenge for his life and to ensure safety of heroine.  I feel the most difficult part of the fly is make the heroine understand that it is his second life. Later heroine helps him to kill the villain and in end he sacrifices life for heroine by being the burning matchstick for canon to kill the villain.

The film has some really excellent scenes and messages. Even a small fly can bring damage to mighty villain- reminded of David - Goliath fight. The fly is determined and he doesn't know his weakness. His goal is important for him. There are umpteen number of failures and challenges, but the nature turns to his favour in climax. Songs are good and acting by Sudeep is excellent. The scene in which he writes "I will kill you" on the glass is very stylish and different. As in the previous movie "Magadeera", graphics is excellent for a Indian movie. Next time you see a housefly, NEVER UNDERESTIMATE IT.

Killadi - No Hero

The name and the hero being Allu Arjun will speak volumes of zillion amount of masala, thousands of villians, heroines numbering like dancers. You guessed it all wrong. I have respect for Allu Arjun in choosing such an offbeat film with no heroism or masalas and madasalas in it. The movie talks of all walks of life- be it the hero aspiring to be become rich or the prostitute ruunning away or the terrorism or the Hindu- Muslim hatred. Allu Arjun is poor and he aspires to become rich by marrying a rich girl by bluffing, but he turns into a good person, when he finds out the person fro whom he robbed money is the one who gave her kidney for removing poverty in her life, played briiliantly by experienced Saranya. That is just one part of the film. Anushka plays the role of a prostitute running away to be free. This shows no woman like prostitution. They are forced into it and they are dying to escape from it.

However I like the story of Manoj Bajpai, who has superbly acted as a muslim, who is ragged by a police officer, who hates Muslims due to terrorism. We come to the feeling that no one can change his attitude to muslims. Manoj is put in terrorist case and is sent to jail too. The climax happens in a hospital which is being attacked by terrorists, which shows nothing but th brutality of terrorist in not even leaving alone the weak and wounded. Manoj helps the inspector in fighting the terrorists. The inspector asks Manoj for forgiveness and helps him too. Not all bearded people are terrorists, but many are good too. Change your preconceived notions. You are not always right and others are not always wrong.

Varan - Oh, no please..

After seeing the movie "Arya 2", I was attracted towards Allu Arjun and equalled him with the stars of Kollywood. But the movie Varan downplayed his heroism in my mind. Such a script, how could he have accepted role. The movie revolves around hero wanting to go for traditional kind of marriage, without seeing the bride and the function happening for 5 days. The sudden twist in story comes when the whole costly mandapam falls and the heroine is kidnapped. Enter Arya as villain. The second half of movie goes into flashback of the heroine and the villain. The film shows the wickedness and treachery of the villain, when Arya kills his own brother, just because his eyes fell on the heroine. The graphics s really pathetic and the whole film gets corrupted due to that. Graphics plays the main role in the climax scene between hero and the villain. The fight happens on top of a chimney which looks like the exhaust of nuclear reactor. Now how the marriage party goes to that chimney is another big question. Overall, just a hero heroine villain story.

Heroine is an utter waste-dont know to act and is not beautiful. Allu Arjun doesn't do anything extraordinary to prove his mettle. Arya does justice to his role. Graphics team must thrown with stones for the work they did. No role for any other person. If you expect good dance along with structured story, please go and watch Arya 2 again, but never see this film. This film is nothig, but Allu 's rotten Aloo Paratha.

Kerala Cafe - Brave Attempt

A director comes forward and asks ten other directors to direct a film each and makes a single film out of the ten. Unbelieveable?? Well you must believe because it is the truth. Renjith is the brave person who believes he can join ten unrelated movies into a single movie. This brave attempt must be applauded whether the film wins or not. Almost in similar lines are the films - Kollywood Swayanvaram (6 directors, 6 actors, 6 music directors,6 producers, but one day to make the film), Bollywood Darna Mana Hai (6 people meet together and tells 6 different horror stories) and Hollywood Vantage Point (single scene, 8 different people's lives). But our very Mollywood has gone one step ahead and made a movie of ten films.

Each of the ten films is very different. It ranges from cheating to attending a funeral. A few comedy scenes is also there. Each film can be found to depict one unique emotion of human mind. One film depicts belief and betrayal, which happens in family life. Another shows people's reactions to dangers in life like terrorism, train tragedy, debt, getting lost, blackmailing and ghosts. Kerala Cafe can be defined as a film whihc summarises what all should be there in a good film. The audience has an option of liking any of the ten films and will not be left cheated, like other films which has only one storyline. The exit interview of the audience will show them saying, I liked the seventh movie but not the fourth, I liked the last one and the second one and so on.

Another highlighting feature of this movie is that, the ten directors have directed films for which they are famous for, but entirely different film, like Shaji Kailas doing an emotional family movie, Lal Jose doing a movie with no comedy scenes and double meaning dialogues. A few debutant directors have done an excellent job, better than the famous directors. Ranjith must be applauded once again for joining all the stories by making all the characters meet at a railway station hotel named "Kerala Cafe". Also the ordering of the films was also done very neatly, with the audience not getting order at all at any point.

The last story is very touching, because of strong storyline. It shows a bus ride and a passenger getting very angry for lack of speed and excess waiting time at each bus stop. He gets the curse and rebuke of all the other passngers and the driver also. But in the last scene when he shouts at the driver that he wants to get down, everyone is taken aback. He wanted to attend the funeral of his daughter and wife. The whole impression of all people for the man changes from hatred to love and empathy. Very easily, we get down to judge people without knowing their circumstances or the loops they are trying to get out. In the end we feel bad for misjudging the person and start liking the person. May this is God's way of making people to love others. This short movie is my personal best out of the lot of ten.
