A director comes forward and asks ten other directors to direct a film each and makes a single film out of the ten. Unbelieveable?? Well you must believe because it is the truth. Renjith is the brave person who believes he can join ten unrelated movies into a single movie. This brave attempt must be applauded whether the film wins or not. Almost in similar lines are the films - Kollywood Swayanvaram (6 directors, 6 actors, 6 music directors,6 producers, but one day to make the film), Bollywood Darna Mana Hai (6 people meet together and tells 6 different horror stories) and Hollywood Vantage Point (single scene, 8 different people's lives). But our very Mollywood has gone one step ahead and made a movie of ten films. Each of the ten films is very different. It ranges from cheating to attending a funeral. A few comedy scenes is also there. Each film can be found to depict one unique emotion of human mind. One film depicts belief and betrayal, which happens in family life. Another shows people's reactions to dangers in life like terrorism, train tragedy, debt, getting lost, blackmailing and ghosts. Kerala Cafe can be defined as a film whihc summarises what all should be there in a good film. The audience has an option of liking any of the ten films and will not be left cheated, like other films which has only one storyline. The exit interview of the audience will show them saying, I liked the seventh movie but not the fourth, I liked the last one and the second one and so on.
Another highlighting feature of this movie is that, the ten directors have directed films for which they are famous for, but entirely different film, like Shaji Kailas doing an emotional family movie, Lal Jose doing a movie with no comedy scenes and double meaning dialogues. A few debutant directors have done an excellent job, better than the famous directors. Ranjith must be applauded once again for joining all the stories by making all the characters meet at a railway station hotel named "Kerala Cafe". Also the ordering of the films was also done very neatly, with the audience not getting order at all at any point.
The last story is very touching, because of strong storyline. It shows a bus ride and a passenger getting very angry for lack of speed and excess waiting time at each bus stop. He gets the curse and rebuke of all the other passngers and the driver also. But in the last scene when he shouts at the driver that he wants to get down, everyone is taken aback. He wanted to attend the funeral of his daughter and wife. The whole impression of all people for the man changes from hatred to love and empathy. Very easily, we get down to judge people without knowing their circumstances or the loops they are trying to get out. In the end we feel bad for misjudging the person and start liking the person. May this is God's way of making people to love others. This short movie is my personal best out of the lot of ten.
