Vaagai Soodava is a movie based on post Independence time story of a teacher trying to get government job by serving with an NGO in totally illiterate village. Vimal shows his best in acting as a dumb teacher who is not interested in teaching but interested in getting a government job vide teaching in village for some time. However his luck gets hidden and only nightmares approach him - children fooling him multiple times vide goat bad words, hitting, heroine(Iniya) fooling him by giving food and the heroine's father (Thambi Ramaiya) who puts a riddle, whom the hero finally cracks with help of his father (Bhagiyaraj). Meanwhile the story revolves how he convince the parents the importance of education for their children by proving how the villain has been cheating them in number of bricks (which is their only source of living).
Another important thing is due to lack of education, the villain has been cheating them in quantity and price and hide them from outside world in knowing their USP of making bricks and fooling them in land deals. Here is one of the rare films in which the hero gets hurt and he doesn't strike back. Another important thing is the way it is made, the dusky color of the film and it suits the theme of the film. "Sarapambu" song is one of the best melody songs ever and went on to win lot of awards and the music suits the film theme too. Almost all the characters in the film have shown their best even the little children and the high tech villains and it suits the film. Overall, one of the best movies ever made in Tamil film world.
